Women farmers discover world of possibilities in Nigeria

Mary Ebari is one of 34 poultry farmers who recently received training in business management and environmentally friendly practices from Cuso International in Nigeria. The young woman received 100 chickens, as well as feed and other items to help her run her farm as smoothly and successfully as possible.

“I intend to put in my all and grow this business from the training I received. This has opened a world of new opportunities for me,” says Mary.

Cuso has been involved in activities geared towards lasting economic opportunities for vulnerable people in Nigeria, particularly refugee women and youth.

“Livelihood is a necessity and an effective way through which people can rebuild their lives and Cuso intends to continuously support beneficiaries to attain financial stability and freedom,” says Ebrima Sonko, Cuso’s Country Representative.

For farmer Miss Uduak Nse, her poultry business is her ticket to financial independence. “When my birds mature and I start marketing them, I’ll be able to cater for myself as well as restock more birds,” she says.

Cuso is focused on livelihood recovery and community integration for refugees in Nigeria as part of its mission to reduce poverty and inequality. Since 2017, thousands of Cameroonians have fled their country to seek safety, stability and a better life in neighboring Nigeria. Training was provided by Cuso with the support of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).
