Giving back to Guyana

Story

Schoolchildren at desks

As a fan and supporter of Cuso International for many years, Pamela Grant believed strongly in Cuso International’s approach of collaboration and cooperation with its partners overseas. So when a friend shared a placement in Guyana, as part of our diaspora program, Pam knew it was the perfect fit for her. It brought together her passion for international development, her over 30 years of experience in community development and youth engagement, and provided her with the opportunity to give back to her country of heritage.

Working with Guyana’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Pam brought leaders of industry and young futurepreneurs from rural areas together for the first time to build viable opportunities for youth. The workshops Pam organized have now become a monthly fixture, giving entrepreneurial youth the tools and networks they need to build their own businesses to support themselves and their families.

“I was able to bring people together that probably never would have come together–leaders of industry and bright young people from rural areas were sitting in the same room having conversations about what the future holds.”

With your help, we can ensure that more skilled volunteers like Pam can give more youth the opportunity to support themselves financially, and build brighter futures!

To make the biggest impact, consider giving monthly. Most Cuso International projects carry on for years, so ongoing support is crucial.
