Award recognizes his local and global contributions

March 1, 2016 – Cuso International congratulates Board Chair Lloyd Axworthy on his recent Maclean’s Magazine Lifetime Achievement Award. Recognizing his incredible impact both in and out of politics, Maclean’s highlights Axworthy’s “counterbalance between an expansively international outlook and intensely local loyalties.” This is reflected in his leadership of Cuso International, where he is overseeing the organization’s work in 17 countries and spearheading its programming in Canada. The prestigious award is presented during Maclean’s Parliamentarians of the Year awards and recognizes a former parliamentarian’s impact on Canadian politics.

“Lloyd embodies the goals and ideals of this award,” says Evelyne Guindon, CEO of Cuso International. “He has dedicated his life to improving the situation in his community and around the world. He exemplifies the spirit of Canadian generosity and inclusion. We are fortunate to have him bring these ideals to Cuso International.”

Under Axworthy’s leadership, Cuso International touched the lives of more than 400,000 people around the world last year. Through programming to eradicate poverty, improve health and break down discrimination in all its forms, Cuso International, its volunteers and partners are supporting people as they transform their lives for the better.

“We are very pleased that Maclean’s has recognized Dr. Axworthy’s work and his stalwart efforts to benefit the world’s most vulnerable,” says Guindon.
