Engaging diaspora communities in Canada to contribute to international development.

For more than a decade, Cuso International has cultivated strong relationships with diaspora communities in Canada and continues to build these partnerships to strengthen our diversity in public engagement and communications efforts. This has allowed us to respond effectively to the shifting nature of the international cooperation sector in Canada.

Cuso’s current diaspora partners include Manyatta Network, a non-profit organization committed to creating professional networking opportunities for the African diaspora by showcasing entrepreneurs and organizations that are making a positive impact in communities across Canada, as well as Ethiofidel.com, an online media outlet focusing on Ethiopian and African Caribbean/Canadian communities.

Our diaspora partners support Cuso’s outreach and public engagement efforts, both vital elements in achieving greater awareness of our development impact. By sharing stories highlighting community-driven projects and programs on the African continent, our partners help promote volunteerism as well as philanthropic and social action.

Canada holds the highest proportion of diaspora population of any country in the world, and Cuso International acknowledges that members of diaspora communities have a long history of contributing in significant ways to the social and economic development of both Canada and their home countries.  The United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals, promises to leave no one behind, a principle also shared by the Manyatta Network, Ethiofidel.com and Cuso. Through shared values and missions, we can create meaningful change and work to reduce poverty and inequality in the world.
