Celebrating International Workers’ Day
News
May 1st is International Workers’ Day. This is a time to remind ourselves that the most productive workforce is one that is safe, fair, diverse, welcoming, and supportive. That is why, from Colombia to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cuso International has been helping women, youth, members of the LGBTQI+ community, and migrants develop new skills and find employment.
Our SCOPE program in Latin America has trained more than 20,000 people and helped more than 14,000 of them to find formal employment.
Just as importantly, in collaboration with our local partners, we have been working with small and medium-size employers as they put in place measures and practices that foster an inclusive work environment. Some of our programs in Cameroon and Ecuador also support fledgling entrepreneurs as they develop their products and bring them to market.
Whether through workshops, trainings, or simply guidance on how to write a CV or business plan, Cuso International staff and volunteers are honoured to be part of so many initiatives that connect talented people to new opportunities. The financial stability that comes with a job has the power to transform lives, families, and communities.
Today and every day, we stand in solidarity with workers around the world, and renew our commitment to economic resilience and sustainable solutions that benefit all, especially the most vulnerable among us. That is the true meaning of globalism for Cuso International.
