CUSO INTERNATIONAL CHAIR PROMOTED TO COMPANION OF THE ORDER OF CANADA

OTTAWA, February 17, 2017 – Cuso International is pleased to celebrate the investiture of its Board Chair, the Honourable Lloyd Axworthy, P.C., C.C., O.M., as a Companion of the Order of Canada. This is a promotion within the Order and recognizes “his principled contributions to international human rights and for his leadership in post-secondary education, particularly in support of Aboriginal students.”Lloyd Axworthy joined the Cuso International Board of Directors as Chair in April 2014 and since then has led the organization’s efforts to reduce poverty and inequality around the world. He has been seminal in establishing the organization’s program work in Canada, which has already seen Cuso International volunteers support the work of Reconciliation Canada and school boards in Canada’s North.

“Lloyd Axworthy has been transformative for Cuso International,” says Glenn Mifflin, CEO. “His dedication to social justice, equality and human rights, in addition to his deep knowledge of global and Canadian issues, has strengthened the organization and allowed it to be more effective. This promotion within the Order of Canada is a recognition of his commitment to ensuring that all Canadians can support change in their communities, their country and the world.”

The investiture ceremony takes place at Rideau Hall in Ottawa on Friday, February 17, 2017.
