Since 2019, Women’s Voice and Leadership (WVL) has provided targeted technical assistance to local women's rights organizations (LWROs) in more than 10 departments in Peru to improve the management and long-term sustainability of LWROs, as well as strengthen programming and advocacy to advance the gender movement in Peru. To date, WVL has worked with nearly 7,000 women activists across the country.
Four Peruvian women's organizations are leading the implementation of key activities focused on preventing sexual and gender-based violence. These include designing support mechanisms for human rights defenders advocating for the rights and protection of women and other marginalized groups, including indigenous women and LGBTQI+ people, and enacting changes to current legislation that denounce the rights of women and other groups. To contribute efforts to systemic change, WVL has also designed innovative mechanisms at national and sub-national levels to strengthen women's rights platforms, networks, and alliances to share important information, prepare future women leaders, and advocate for policy reform.
