About E-Volunteering


Cuso International’s e-volunteering program welcomes new and returning volunteers to work with our international program partners and volunteers remotely. E-volunteering offers many of the benefits gained from international volunteering, while having the extra advantage of fitting into one's regular weekly schedule without needing a passport. Contributing and giving back to a community, gaining new skills, and making new connections are common benefits of e-volunteering and for Cuso International it is a great opportunity to engage more people in its mission.  

E-Volunteers are expected to supply their own basic home office equipment, Internet and have a moderate knowledge of computer technology. Some of our partners are located in remote areas with unreliable internet connection. Consequently, it is reasonable to assume that when working with the partners, emails will not be responded to immediately. For most of our partners, this is their first experience working with e-volunteers and flexibility and patience is a valuable e-volunteer characteristic.

The E-Volunteer’s Role


This is a great role for an experienced grant researcher and proposal developer.  Your resume and/or statement of interest must clearly demonstrate that you have experience with fund sourcing and proposal development.

As an e-volunteer, you will:

- Research and create a calendar of one year's worth of available grants that are nationally, regionally and internationally available.

Essential Academic Qualifications:

-Bachelor’s degree in the Social Sciences (or a related field) and 5+ years experience in the non-profit sector.

- Develop a template for the organization's grant application strategy.

- Support in writing proposals, applications and letters of inquiry to private foundations and governments for education and training programs.

- Expand the CDA's revenue pipeline through prospect identification, research, and strategic outreach.

-Update the database of funders and prospects and ensure accuracy in the recording of funder histories, activities and profiles.

-Train CDA staff in research strategies relating to the assembly of background materials for the writing of grant proposals.

Essential Professional Background:

-At least 2 years experience with fund sourcing, proposal research, and development.
-Understanding of the non-profit funder landscape and processes.
-Excellent organizational and time management skills; the ability to take initiative, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, problem solve, and work as part of a (remote) team.
-Flexible and adaptable when faced challenges and/or new opportunities; you take a solutions-based and collaborative approach to unexpected challenges.
-Strong computer skills and proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Combined Disabilities Association (Jamaica Society for the Blind and Abilities Association)

The Combined Disabilities Association:

The CDA is a non-profit cross disability umbrella organization established in 1978 that advocates or the rights and equality of persons with disabilities.   It is the premier rights group in Jamaica. Its activities include monthly rap sessions, a revolving loan fund for individuals to generate income, a quarterly magazine “Mainstream”, a revenue generating print shop, a women’s’ group, sign language services, rural outreach (with 3 groups set up thus far), as well as advocacy and public education.


Jamaica Society for the Blind:

The Jamaican Society for the Blind is a non-profit voluntary national organization established in 1954 to promote the welfare, education and employment of persons who are blind or visually impaired and to prevent (avoidable) blindness. Its activities include an eye screening and health clinic, library and education services, and information technology training. It provides training to primary health care workers, computer training, client counselling as well as advocacy and public education.


Abilities Foundation:

Established in 1991, the Abilities Foundation is a registered non-profit organization to “provide quality vocational education to disabled individuals so that they can be channeled into creative and productive avenues”. Training is provided in literacy and numeracy and in trade areas including garment construction, cabinet making, information technology, horticulture and landscaping, and entrepreneurship. It works in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, HEART, and various corporations and Foundations.
