Increasing Health Care Through Community-Based Health Insurance (Nigeria)

Online placement (E-Classroom)

Length of Placement 1 Semester

This initiative hopes to address a major gap in Nigeria’s health care insurance scheme by improving community-based funding for health care among indigent households who do not have formal employment and who lack access to current government health insurance schemes. Reaching the most marginalized populations through local community safety nets is an innovative approach that empowers people to access quality health services without waiting for government, or others to roll out universal care. In addition, this scheme will provide more choice in terms of service providers, therefore adding pressure on health facilities to improve performance.

Student research may include a review similar models that have been deployed, share lessons learned, the recommendation of a model and the development of a guide to implement the model, and the recommendation of possible donors to fund this initiative.

This placement is offered under our E-Volunteering Classroom Program and is reserved for Canadian post-secondary instructors only.
