About E-Volunteering

Cuso International’s e-volunteering program welcomes new and returning volunteers to work with our international program partners and volunteers remotely. E-volunteering offers many of the benefits gained from international volunteering, while having the extra advantage of fitting into one's regular weekly schedule without needing a passport. Contributing and giving back to a community, gaining new skills, and making new connections are common benefits of e-volunteering and for Cuso International it is a great opportunity to engage more people in its mission.

E-Volunteers are expected to supply their own basic home office equipment, Internet and have a moderate knowledge of computer technology. Some of our partners are located in remote areas with unreliable internet connection. Consequently, it is reasonable to assume that when working with the partners, emails will not be responded to immediately. For most of our partners, this is their first experience working with e-volunteers and flexibility and patience is a valuable e-volunteer characteristic.

The E-Volunteer’s Role

Our Volunteer Journey Team, based at Cuso International Headquarters in Ottawa, is seeking translation support for our safety security manuals and templates. An e-volunteer such as you is skilled with knowledge of written translations from English to Spanish and can help maintain the tone set and language used in English to our Spanish documents. You will be helping us to give the same experience to all our volunteers regardless of the language that they speak by reviewing the translated materials.

You will gain excellent knowledge of how safety and security protocols and procedures are being implemented by INGOs to comply with their Duty of Care including safety and security tips and recommendation to have a safe and secure placement overseas.

The placement is expected to start mid-April and it is currently estimated that documents will have a one-month turnaround time. The length of the placement will depend on the time it takes to review the documents.

As an e-volunteer, you will:

-Review documents that have been translated from English to Spanish

-Help maintain the tone and desired effect in the Spanish document

-Give recommendations to improve translated documents to give better clarity

Essential Academic Qualifications:

A post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Linguistics, Translation or a related discipline.

Essential Professional Background:

Professional or causal experience in translating or reviewing documents from English to Spanish (a short sample translation passage may be requested.)
