Ottawa, Ontario, May 29, 2018. Cuso International is pleased to announce the appointment of Frank O’Dea, O.C., as Board Chair. Frank takes over from out-going Chair Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, P.C., C.C., O.M.

A sought-after speaker, author, innovative entrepreneur and humanitarian, Frank’s story of triumph over adversity in business and in his personal life inspires audiences around the world. Against all odds, he went from being a homeless panhandler to a successful entrepreneur and a founder of The Second Cup chain of coffee stores. From there, he went on further to launch several other innovative and successful businesses and international not-for-profit organizations including the Landmine Foundation. Frank’s powerful message inspires audiences to hope for a better future and learn from his example.

“Cuso International is enormously fortunate to have someone with Frank’s range of skills and experience as the new Chair,” said Cuso International CEO Glenn Mifflin. “He is a skilled builder of organisations and is deeply committed to empowering people and communities in situations of poverty. I would also like to thank our outgoing Chair, Dr. Lloyd Axworthy for the immense contribution he has made to the organization over the past four and half years.”

“I am truly honoured to assume the role,” said Frank O’Dea. “Cuso International has made an enormous difference in the world, and through the work of thousands of volunteers, is doing much to improve the lives of women, children and men. I look forward to working with the leadership and staff to further Cuso International’s reach and potential for even greater impact.”

Frank O’Dea is an Officer of the Order of Canada and holds honorary degrees from two universities. He is also the author of two books: his memoir, When All You Have is Hope, and Do the Next Right Thing.
