Participation and governance

Cuso International volunteers work to strengthen civil society organizations, support judicial reform, and promote access to justice for vulnerable populations.

We do this because people worldwide should be able to participate in the decisions that affect their daily lives through structures that are open, rule-based, predictable and non-discriminatory.

In 2011-12, we supported 136 volunteers and 71 partner groups working on governance & participation programs in 15 countries.

Here is a video case study on one of our projects in the participation area in Jamaica:

Life can be difficult for children living in the creative but sometimes volatile inner-city neighbourhoods of Kingston, Jamaica. If a youth is a victim of crime and has to go to court, the case could fall apart because the child is too frightened to testify.

That's why Cuso International and partner groups including the Jamaican government created the 'Children in Court' program.
