Volunteering for Development:
Innovation and impact in a changing development environment
Cuso International, an international development organization that works through volunteers in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia is very pleased to host the annual International Volunteer Cooperation Organizations (IVCO) conference in Ottawa, Canada in October 2012. The conference will gather heads of organizations and delegates from agencies across the world to discuss key contemporary issues in international volunteering and development, and to share best practices.
The theme for IVCO 2012 is Volunteering for Development: Innovation and impact in a changing development environment. The conference dates are from October 14th to 17th, 2012.
The conference is a joint undertaking between Cuso International and the International FORUM on Development Service (known as “FORUM”) - a global network of International Volunteer Co-operation Organizations. FORUM aims to share information, develop good practice and enhance co-operation and support between its Members. Together, FORUM Members explore innovative practice and research key contemporary issues, focusing on organizational learning and improved practice contributing to the recognition of international volunteering as a powerful and effective resource in addressing the challenges of international development.

Cuso International and FORUM welcome the participation of organizations and individuals who have an expertise and commitment towards excellence in volunteering to join in the discussion through attendance at the conference, contribution to workshops, presentations or networking and completion of research on the topics of Innovation and Impact in the changing development environment.
The Ottawa conference will be a three-day event, with two and a half days of presentations, discussions and workshops geared to innovative thinking and shared learning. Panel discussion and “World Café” style small group discussions and workshops will be conducted to ensure a range of interesting opportunities for knowledge building and sharing of good practice. Small group discussions on specific topics could be organized in-between sessions for certain interest groups, to maximize time and strengthen networking. Joint presentations between organizations working together will be encouraged.
